Double Screen

 Back to Projects list
Location
Okinawa, Japan
Year
2016

A house in Toyomijo is located in Okinawa south west coast. It's the area where I developed suddenly in these several years, but a salt field is also a place which prospers around this site where it's from a coast in about about 500 m, and a copy of the remains are left even at present, but it's a very quiet area.
An image in this housing put the climate of Okinawa together because the owner was born in Okinawa and his wife were from Kagoshima,so they required the space where the atmosphere of the inland is taken in.
A site is a triangle in a corner lot and there is a channel on the south side. A plan is developing by leading with a folding screen of 4.5 m of the channel and 15 m more of length distributed to parallel on the north side (HIN PUN).
The stretcher side was made facing south and a floral block and a folding screen by a louver with the pleasant ventilation were distributed.
The margin with the building where those were born by a TA-CHI (two) folding screen was made the courtyard which spreads over north and south from a living room.
A main building is covered up on one wooden roof of the singing pitch by the shape that a southwest wind is played and it's let run. A climbing beam of the length of the 9m is setting 5m and 4m together with a house. Lightness is being expressed to joining with concrete and antithesis of strong building flame by supporting those by 3 points for each by the bunch making concrete on the north side.
The outward appearances are a flower of the hibiscus planted in the front appropriate for Okinawa and the white for which green of an island crape myrtle is conspicuous.
As I'm invited to a folding screen and approach a building, the Ryukyu tile buried in the ground in the north garden is seen. Cantilevering stairs receive light from a top light and carve the shadow of time in a wall with the feel of a material of the Ryukyu limestone at the front.
A Japanese-style room in the guest room makes the wall in the alcove hanchikukabe of a little violent expression by a local red earth, and the drop account is an iron plate. The Echizen Japanese paper I did titanium dyeing of by the tone added to a red earth is being treated in a wall.
It was circled in a sea and it was the plan to which the traditional idea as a folding screen that forcing a look is interrupted in the windy environment called Okinawa and a pleasant wind is taken in throughout the year was introduced modernly.
