The Plaza is one of America’s most celebrated hotels, and is located at Fifth Avenue and Central Park South. ABB had the opportunity to design the courtyard, fountain, and planting of this century-old landmark, following its conversion to a multi-use building. The design draws inspiration from the building’s French architectural design and the iconic Parisian gardens.

ABB employed a rich palette of materials including stone balustrades consistent with the hotel’s original details, limestone walls, bluestone paving, and a stabilized gravel court bordered by granite cobblestones. The courtyard’s casual seating and seasonal planted urns provide passive recreation for building residents. The water features consist of a cascading linear fountain that bisects the narrow western portion of the courtyard and a 1,100 SF rectangular pool with spray jets that highlights the central copper bay that runs up the building’s façade, all within the complex geometrical alignment of the surrounding architecture.
