Glass Chapel

Rural Studio is an undergraduate program of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University. The program has been located in Hale County, Alabama since its establishment in 1993. Rural Studio’s education strategy combines hands-on learning with a healthy dose of social activism. Students draw, interact with clients, meet with consultants, draw some more, fund raise and, finally, build projects. As an educational institution, Rural Studio has the ability to investigate ideas, techniques and materials in a research-based process and share that knowledge with the broader community. To date, Rural Studio has built more than 150 projects and educated more than 600 “Citizen Architects.”
